Mainduties

Conservators perform some or all of the following duties:

Examineartifacts, determine their condition, suggest methods for treating them andrecommend preventive conservation techniques to their owners

Restoreand conserve paintings, photographs, sculptures, furniture, pottery and othermuseum and art gallery artifacts

Provideadvice on display and storage of museum and gallery artifacts to ensure propermaintenance and preservation

Researchnew conservation and restoration techniques

Provideconsultation to museums, art galleries or private individuals

Superviseconservation technicians and other museum technicians.

Curators perform some or all of the following duties:

Recommendthe acquisition of paintings, photographs, sculptures, documents and othermuseum and art gallery artifacts

Researchorigins and artistic history of artifacts

Developstorylines and themes and organize displays and exhibitions

Co-ordinatethe storage of collections and the setting up of displays and exhibitions

Overseethe conservation, display and circulation of collections

Supervisecuratorial assistants and other museum technicians.

Conservators and curators may specialize in a particular type of collection ormaterial, such as furniture, weapons, books, paintings and musical instruments.
