Archivistsmanage, process, store and disseminate information contained in anorganization's archives. They acquire, store and research textual material,pictures, maps, architectural documents, electronic materials, films andvideos, and sound recordings and multimedia materials. Archivists are employedin archives, in the public and para-public sectors and in private sectororganizations.

Mainduties

Archivists perform some or all of the following duties:

Developpolicies and procedures for managing current and semicurrent archives, inparticular corporate cataloguing systems, records scheduling and disposal, andfinding aids

Designprograms for managing, disseminating and storing archives of all types (documents,photographs, maps, audio-visual materials, manuscripts, etc.)

Planthe computerized management of archives and the management of electronicarchives

Appraiseand acquire archival materials to build and develop an archival collection forresearch purposes

Authenticatedocuments and records, and research the origins and significance of archivalmaterials

Organizenoncurrent archives and develop cataloguing and retrieval systems to allowaccess to archival materials
