You must apply in person fora Certificado de Antecedentes Policíacos at the Comisarías de laPolicía Nacional Civil (see Specialnotes and considerations for complete address).

You must apply in person fora Constancia de Carencia de Antecedentes Penales at the Bureau ofCriminal Background (Unidad de Antecedentes Penales) of the Supreme Court ofJustice (located in the majority of departments of the country or see Specialnotes and considerations for complete capital city address).

Note: If you are unable to personallyrequest either certificate, a lawyer who has been authorized by you can act onyour behalf. Your lawyer must submit your original identification documents.

-Foreign residents: in addition to theabove, for the Certificado de Antecedentes Policíacos, you must presentthe original and a legible photocopy of your passport and take the certificateto the -Legal Bureau of the Civil National Police Headquarters in GuatemalaCity for legalization (6a. Ave. 14 Calle zona 1). Forthe Constancia de Carencia de Antecedentes Penales, foreigners must, inaddition to the above, present their valid passport showing their legal statusin the country.
