Mainduties

Forestry technologists and technicians perform some or all of the followingduties:

Conduct,supervise and participate in forest inventory cruises, surveys and fieldmeasurements following accepted scientific and operational procedures

Assistand perform technical functions in the preparation of forest management andharvest plans using photogrammetric and mapping techniques and computerizedinformation systems

Assistin planning and supervise construction of access routes and forest roads

Implement,supervise and perform technical functions in silvicultural operations involvingsite preparation, planting, and tending of tree crops

Co-ordinateactivities such as timber scaling, forest fire suppression, disease or insectcontrol or pre-commercial thinning of forest stands

Superviseand perform technical functions in forest harvesting operations

Monitoractivities of logging companies and contractors and enforce regulations such asthose concerning environmental protection, resource utilization, fire safetyand accident prevention

Provideforestry education, advice and recommendations to woodlot owners, communityorganizations and the general public

Developand maintain computer databases

Superviseforest tree nursery operations

Providetechnical support to forestry research programs in areas such as treeimprovement, seed orchard operations, insect and disease surveys orexperimental forestry and forest engineering research.
